Harold "Red" Wayne Gray

February 16, 1937 — January 17, 2021

            Graveside service for Harold Wayne “Red” Gray, age 83, of Grandfield, Oklahoma, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Mickey Miller, Baptist minister, officiating.

            He passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the Frederick Nursing Center. Burial is under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.

            Harold was lovingly known as “Red.” Red never met a stranger and he had a laugh that would instantly make you happy. If you knew Red then you had a nickname and a song to go along with that nickname.

            He was born February 16, 1937, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, to Wesley and Mary (Hunter) Gray. Red attended Grandfield schools and entered the United States Army, where he served honorably for four years. He met and married Barbara Cheek on May 9, 1958. They had four children. Red was a “jack of all trades”. He painted, did farm work, and grew a beautiful garden. He loved sports, OU and the Dallas Cowboys were his favorite football teams and he also loved the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team. Red enjoyed spending time in his garden and spoiling his dog Trixie.

            Survivors include his two sons: Tommy Gray, Grandfield, and Eddie Gray, of Sayre; two daughters: Carla McCoy and husband Mickey, Grandfield, and Lanita Hernandez, of Wichita Falls; three brothers: Wesley T. Gray and wife Glenda, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Howard Gray and wife Barbara, of Moore, and Gary L. Gray, of Edmond; one sister-in-law: Charlsa Gray, of Grandfield; 8 grandchildren: Reagan Teakell and husband Brian, Annie Baker and Toby; Amber Harmon and Dean, Justin Gray and Kyla, Tosha Cruthird and husband Blair, Brittany Reis and husband Nick, Holly Catlege and husband Cooper, Kayla Quistian and husband Javier; and 27 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Barbara; his sisters: Mary Lee Nichols, Wilma Brown, Ella Faye Perkins, Maxine Carroll, and Helen Hopkins; and his brothers: Jake Gray and James Don Gray; two sisters-in-laws: Judy Gray and Reba Gray.
