Funeral service for Simon Vasquez, age 75, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Bishop David Salazar officiating. Mr. Vasquez passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at a Lawton, Oklahoma, hospital. A visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with U.S. Army (Fort Sill) military honors. He was born June 5, 1946, in San Benito, Texas, to Miguel and Francisca (Noriega) Vasquez. He grew up in San Benito and attended school there. He was drafted by the United States Army on July 13, 1967. He completed his basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana with certificate awards and honors. He fought in the Vietnam War with a distinguished service record. He was honorably discharged as SP4 on July 1, 1973. He was united in marriage to Anastacia Puentes on March 27, 1970, in San Benito, Texas. Simon worked as an accountant for the Harlingen State Bank for many years until his retirement in 2001. They moved to Frederick in September of 2001. He was an accomplished carpenter as well as being adept at electrical and plumbing jobs. He always had projects going and took pride in maintaining and improving his home. He enjoyed fishing and watching UFC and boxing. He loved his family and especially enjoyed playing and joking with his grandchildren. He was a devoted Christian and served as the Pastor for 19 years of the Monte Calvario Church in Frederick, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Antonio, Miguel Jr, Oscar, Juan, and Arturo Vasquez. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years: Anastacia Vasquez; two sons: Simon Vasquez Jr, of San Benito, and Juan Antonio Vasquez, of Frederick; a daughter: Christine (Garrett) Farrone, of Frederick; 10 grandchildren: Tiffany Camero, Alexsis Vasquez, Anna Vasquez, Roberto (Christian)Vasquez, Simon Vasquez III, Miguel (Clarissa) Vasquez, Elias Vasquez, Angelica Vasquez, and Emmalizabeth and Daniel Obregon; six great grandchildren: Mila Rose Camero, Sebastian Lopez, Alayna Rose Vasquez, Haven Seamon, Luca Suede Bass, and Mia Ann Vasquez; four brothers: Rogelio, Reynaldo, Ruben, and Roberto Vasquez; a sister: Ruby Vasquez; a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
