Funeral service for Ruby D. Walker, age 89, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Mike Haverland, minister of the Frederick Church of Christ, officiating.

Mrs. Walker passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder.

Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

She was born on September 7, 1935, in Elmore City, Oklahoma, to John Alexander McNeill and Vivia Leola (Pyle) McNeill. Ruby graduated from Elmore City High School in 1953 and later moved to Frederick in 1972. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, and she spent her years not only as a homemaker but also as a self-employed business owner. Ruby was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Frederick.

On February 5, 1972, Ruby married the love of her life, Don E. Walker, and they shared nearly five decades together before his passing on December 9, 2020. They worked side by side for 45 years, building a life rooted in partnership, hard work, and devotion. Together, they also enjoyed traveling, taking trips near and far, and making memories everywhere they went.

Ruby was known for her warmth in the kitchen. She was a talented cook and an especially gifted baker, filling her home with the smells and tastes of her creations.

Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. Ruby dearly loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandchild. She was often seen with a smile while talking about them, and she treasured every moment she spent caring for and cheering them on.

Her playful side will also be remembered: Ruby loved to surprise and playfully startle her loved ones with her humor and mischief—though she herself did not care to be startled. It was just one of the many ways she brought joy and laughter to those around her.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; her siblings Wanda Clark, Ruth Horn, John T. McNeill, and Nolen McNeill; her grandson, Dustyn Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Kyra Hoover and Sutton Smith.

She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters: Valarie Clayton and husband Monty, of Frederick, and Joy Hoover, of Frederick, Donnell Singleton and husband Richard, of Carrollton, Texas, Denise Walker, of Missouri; son: Dorphus VanBuskirk and wife Belinda, of Morris, Oklahoma; her grandchildren: Mikeal & Charlotte Clayton (Raleigh, NC), Kelly Clayton (Oklahoma City, OK), Kristopher Hoover (Clinton, OK), Britni & Matthew Smith (Frederick, OK), Macy & Devin Summerhays (Goldsboro, NC), Miranda Carpenter (Moore, OK), Lela & Danny Cupp (Elk City, OK), and Michelle & Chris Poole (Piedmont, OK). She also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren: Ryder & Caitlin Ramirez, Crew Smith, Daxton Smith, Clover Carpenter, Carolina Carpenter, Alex Cupp, Adyson Cupp, Korbin Poole, Grayson Poole, and Baylor Poole. Her legacy continues with one great-great-grandchild, Ryz Ramirez.

Ruby’s journey was brightened by the devoted friendship of Frances Potts, who remained faithfully by her side through the many seasons of life.

Ruby will be remembered for her faith, her resilience, and the love she poured into her family and friends.
