Rita Joyce Powell, age 66, passed away July 31, 2026, at the Memorial Health System of Southwest Oklahoma in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Rita Joyce Powell was born January 29, 1960, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Edd and Joy (Allgood) Matthew. She grew up in Hollister, Oklahoma, until 1967, when her family moved to Chattanooga, Oklahoma. In 1974, her father’s roofing business relocated the family to Frederick, Oklahoma where she lived until she graduated with the Class of 1978. Following graduation, she moved to Houston, Texas, where she met her husband and was united in marriage to Marty Powell in 1982. After their marriage, they returned to Frederick. Together they were blessed with three children: Jennifer, Johnathan and Stephen whom she loved very much. Her husband, children and family were her life.

Rita worked at Schlegel (Henniges), was a clerk at Hop and Sac, and was a Youth Guidance Specialist at Southwest Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Manitou, Oklahoma.

She is survived by her husband: Marty, of the home; one daughter: Jennifer (Powell) Hudson; one son: Stephen Powell; one stepson: Marty Wayne Powell; three grandchildren: Blaine Powell, Emily Hudson, and Ty Hudson; sister: Tina Diaz (Joe); one niece: Amanda Matthew; four nephews: Michael Diaz (Amanda), Chris Diaz (Melissa), Brandon Hogan (Julynda) and Anthony Diaz; sister-in-law: Shirley Matthew; three aunts: Teressa Ryan, Barbra Combs (Donnie) and Glenda Dyer; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son Johnathan Powell; her parents; one sister Ruby (Matthew) Diaz, one brother: Cecil Matthew; one sister-in-law: Rebecca (Powell) Franks; mother and father-in-law; and one special great nephew: Haven Hogan AKA Pookie.
