Mike Suiter

            Funeral service for Michael Dayle “Mike” Suiter, age 71, of Tipton, Oklahoma, retired Church of Christ Minister, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at the Tipton Church of Christ with Jason Sparks (son-in-law), officiating.

            Mr. Suiter passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus, Oklahoma.

            Burial with U.S. Navy military honors will follow in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.         

            He was born February 5, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Norman Howard Suiter and Ruth Mary (Barb) Suiter. He graduated high school at Ulysses, Kansas, in 1965. He entered the United States Navy on August 15, 1965, at Kansas City, Kansas. He worked as an aviation metal smith and a jet mechanic. He was honorably discharged 2nd Class Petty Officer (E-5) on August 15, 1969, at Virginia Beach, Virginia. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, he worked for Beech Aircraft Mfg., where he met Margie Hackler. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1970, at Liberal, Kansas. From 1970-1976, Mike worked as a salesman. He attended Harding University (Searcy, Arkansas) and studied Christian Communication. He preached and ministered for Churches of Christ from 1976 until his recent retirement at the Tipton Church of Christ. He served three years as a Prison Chaplain teaching New Life Behavior. He also served as a Hospice Chaplain, both full and part time from 1985 until recently. He worked most recently for Aspire Hospice. He served as an Elder for the Tipton Church of Christ, board of directors at the Tipton Children’s Home, board of directors at Frederick Memorial Hospital, HUD Commissioner of the HUD Housing Authority in Tipton. He loved the 4th of July fireworks and was one of the original founders of the aerial display on the 4th to Tipton.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Jerry and Jim Suiter.

            Survivors include his wife: Margie, of the home in Tipton; a son: Ron Suiter and wife Melissa, of Mt. Park; a daughter: Karla Sparks and husband Jason, of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister: Tina Turner, of Miami, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren: Payton, Jacob and Riley Suiter, and Cheyenne Smith, Ryder Jack, Jody and wife Carley, and Jayla Sparks.

            Memorial contributions may be sent to the Tipton Children's Home.
