Funeral service for Mary Helen Clayton, age 83, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Rev. Charles Wyatt, officiating.
Mrs. Clayton passed away Saturday, December 01, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Nursing Center. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.
She was born July 9, 1935, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Bernard Carl and Emma Mae (Lynch) Schrick. Mary Helen attended Victory No. 11 where she excelled on the basketball court and in academics. She graduated as Salutatorian in May 1953. She attended Draughn’s Business School for one year. She was united in marriage to Glen Sherril Clayton on June 27, 1954, at Frederick, Oklahoma. She utilized the skills from business school to manage an efficient household and take care of the books for Sherril’s trucking business. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she served in many capacities including preparing meals, supervising children, teaching VBS, working with the youth group, and serving various committees. She tutored elementary students and successfully mentored many in order to improve their grades and improve their potential. Most of all, Mary Helen loved her family and always held all of us to a high standard. Her high expectations have been immeasurable and much appreciated by her children and grandchildren. She taught us a strong work ethic and expected nothing but the very best.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Robert W. Schrick, Roy Lavern Schrick, and Albert C. “Pee Wee” Schrick; and a sister: Anna Blance (Schrick) Jackson.
Survivors include her husband: Glen Sherril Clayton, of the home in Frederick; two sons: Mike Clayton and Monty Clayton and wife Valerie, all of Frederick; a daughter: Sheryl Ranee Schoenhals and husband Jeff, of Edmond; a brother: Johnny Schrick and wife Ann, of San Antonio, Texas; and a sister: Mae Ray, of Tuttle; four grandchildren: Mikeal M. Clayton and wife Charlotte, Kelly B. Clayton, Sagan E. (Schoenhals) Hughes and husband Sean Hughes, and Amelia M. Schoenhals, all of Oklahoma City.Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104, in loving memory of Mary Helen Clayton.
