Mary L Chappell, age 78, left this life in the arms of angels and surrounded by family on May 25, 2024, in the comfort of her home. Mary was born October 21, 1945, in Marshall, Arkansas to the parents of Alvin and Dona (Clayton) Johnson.
Mary lived in Frederick, Oklahoma from 1952 through the 7th grade. She was fortunate to have a loving second Father Carl Marshall in her life beginning in 1958 after her dad lost his life in an automobile accident in Pontiac, Illinois. Her dad, Carl was in the army and transferred to Fort Polk, Louisiana. A year later he was transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina before being stationed in Germany. Mary returned to Frederick while her dad was stationed in Germany and spent her sophomore and junior year in Frederick. In 1963 she completed her senior year in DeRidder, Louisiana. She attended Cosmetology school in Lake Charles, Louisiana after high school. Mary returned to live with her grandparents Hudge and Jessie Clayton in 1964. She went to work at Betsy Bra Co. as a machine operator. Her son Chad Chappell was born May 26, 1969, in Frederick, Oklahoma. They lived in Frederick until 1971 then moved to Chattanooga, Oklahoma where they lived until her passing. Mary worked in many different jobs. She drove the school bus for Chattanooga Public School for six years. She said she loved the children she picked up and delivered and the people of Chattanooga. Mary worked in many bakeries in the area being a cake decorator and other duties. Mary began at Metzler in Frederick in 2003 and returned in 2013 as a team leader. She was always a dedicated employee and was loved by the people she worked with. Mary retired from Henniges in 2013 due to illness.
Mary is survived by her son: Chad Chappell and wife Nina of Chattanooga, OK; grandchildren: Coy Chappell and Malaysha of Elkins, Arkansas, Loy Chappell and Amy of Chattanooga, OK, Stormie Linthicum and Ryan of Cache, OK; nine great grandchildren: Callen, Payson, Cashton, Lance, Brooklynn, Jayden, Lilly, Briar and Everett; aunt and uncle: Ann and Clois Robertson, and Sherril Clayton of Frederick, OK, and several cousins.
Mary was preceded in death by her father: Alvin Johnson; parents: Dona and Carl Marshall; grandparents: Hudge and Jessie Clayton, and many aunts and uncles.
