Mable Duckworth

May 1, 1924 — May 23, 2020

Mable Amanda Duckworth passed away at the age of 96 on Saturday morning, May 23 in Edmond, OK at her residence at Lyndale Senior Living.

Born to James Cleveland Crowell and Luna Mable Compton Crowell on May 1, 1924 in Nashville, AR, Mable was one of ten children. The Crowell family came to Oklahoma to farm in Caddo County in the 1920s. A young girl of The Great Depression, Mable was a teenager at the outbreak of WWII and learned the value of hard work at an early age. After graduating at the top of her class at Oney High School, Mable worked at the Douglas Aircraft Plant in Oklahoma City, which is now part of Tinker Air Force Base. It was at this war-time job that she met John Dallis (J.D.) Duckworth, whom she married on February 24, 1945 as WWII was in its final months. Mable moved to the Duckworth home in Frederick and held several jobs at local businesses, including Mabry’s Bakery, Seay’s Drug, Betsy Bra Factory, and Kellwood Corp., but her favorite full-time job was mother to her two sons, Gary and Rocky. Mable retired in 1989. In retirement, she and J.D. delighted in traveling to corners of the U.S. which she had not seen.

Mable and J.D. were married for almost 53 years until J.D.’s death in 1998. Mable lived in Frederick for fifty-five years and considered the First Christian Church community a major part of her life. Following J.D.’s death, Mable lived in California for twelve years before returning to Oklahoma in 2012, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Mable is survived by her two sons, Gary of Edmond, OK and Rocky  of Houston, TX, daughter-in-law Carol of Houston, TX, sister Wilda Jeanne King of Yukon, OK; along with three grandchildren Matt Duckworth of Norman, Regan Morgan (James) of Vienna, VA, and Cara Weiblinger (Richard) of Alexandria, VA, as well as four great-grandchildren Tate Morgan, Piper Morgan, Lucy Weiblinger, and Annie Weiblinger, and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews – all of whom she loved very much.

Graveside service will be held at the Frederick Cemetery, under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home with The Rev. Lisa Beavers, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Frederick officiating.
