Lynda Akin

            Memorial service for Lynda Akin, age 86, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Frederick, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church of Frederick with Rev. Lisa Beavers, pastor, officiating.

            Lynda passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022, in Oklahoma City.

            The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

            Arrangements are under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.

            She was born August 4, 1936, in Davidson, Oklahoma, to H.E. and Beulah (Thomas) Blakely. She attended Davidson schools and was a Girls State delegate. She enjoyed playing basketball, working with the horses, spending time at the Big Pasture and outdoors with friends and family. She graduated from Davidson High School with the Class of 1954. She was united in marriage to Hurston B. Akin on December 26, 1960, at North Island Navy Base. Lynda and Hurston adopted two sons and shared their life together at a variety of Naval bases over the years. They enjoyed time at the beach, lakes and mountains with their sons, family and friends. She worked as a teller and cashier for the First State Bank of Davidson and the Frederick National Bank. She also worked as secretary for the First United Methodist Church of Frederick. She was active in the Navy Officers Wives Club, Civil Air Patrol and Square Dance Club. After retirement, she and Hurston moved to Kingston, Oklahoma, and lived at Lake Texoma. They had many friends in their community there. She was a member of the Lighthouse Methodist Church. They moved back to Frederick and once again were active in the community and First United Methodist Church of Frederick. She loved to spend time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved to cook for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with Hurston and his sisters, Oretha Ferguson and Carol Dean Schreiner. They then moved to Norman to be near the sisters and then to Edmond to be near family. She enjoyed shopping, getting her nails done, playing games with her grandkids, trying a variety of restaurants, going on adventures and exploring greater Oklahoma City.

           In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Hurston Akin on February 16, 2019; and her sister: Marilynne B. Wilheim on August 22, 2014.

            Survivors include two sons: Jason (JB) Akin and wife Amy, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Chuck Akin of Athens, Alabama; grandchildren:  Josh Akin and his wife McKinsey Akin, Jennifer Akin, Jeremy Akin and his wife Lisa Akin, Autumn Raven Akin and Luke Blakely Akin; great grandchildren: Harley, Christian, Trevor, Laetyn, Blakely, Hayley, Braden Velez, Atticus and Kingston; great-great grandchildren: Ezra Smith and Declan Cooper.
