Jerry Bob Cupp was born November 5, 1944, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Warren and Jurhee (Godfrey) Cupp. He attended Frederick schools. He served honorably in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Hawkins on December 19, 1965, in Vernon, Texas. He attended Cameron University and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He taught school and coached basketball, led 4-H and drove the school bus at Butler schools. He was Principal at Manitou Public Schools, where he also taught, coached basketball, taught Music (including Square Dancing and Clogging). While at Manitou, Jerry organized a Drug-Free Program consisting of students who traveled to different schools throughout Oklahoma to perform and teach kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. He was the also the instructor of the clogging team called Sudden Impact in Altus and Tipton and he enjoyed performing with his daughter, son and grandkids. Jerry retired from teaching at Tipton Public Schools in the late 90’s but continued to teach music even after retirement. He was a longtime member of the Manitou Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandmother: Leona Godfrey; a brother: Wayne Cupp; and a son: Robby Joe Cupp.
Survivors include his wife: Carolyn Cupp, of the home in Tipton; a daughter: Traci Cupp-Balderas and husband Michael, of Tipton; a sister: Judy Kibler, of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren: Mikayla Jo Shell and husband Cody, of Nevada, Texas, Brittany Tate and husband Brandon, of Tipton, and Jacob Michael Jerry Balderas, also of Tipton.
