Funeral service for Janice Fae “Jan” O’Brien, age 72, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Tesca Baptist Church with Bro. David Kirby, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. O’Brien passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.
She was born July 16, 1951, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Melvin Ike and Ethel (Tassey) Matthew. She grew up in Hollister and graduated from Chattanooga High School. She married Steve Overstreet, born of this union were two sons: John Carl Overstreet and Steve Allen Overstreet. She attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus and received her associate degree. In 1984, she received a bachelor’s degree from Cameron University in Lawton. She obtained her master’s degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. She was united in marriage to Friend Nolan Wolfe, he preceded her in death on July 27, 1992. She worked in various jobs in her work career to include serving as a Frederick police officer. She supervised the “COP” program at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus for many years. She was a case manager at the Southwest Juvenile Center in Manitou, and worked as a BHRS counselor at Professional Counseling Solutions. Throughout the years, she worked as a tax preparer. She was very adept at accounting and tax filing. She obtained her license each year and worked hard at keeping up with ever changing IRS tax code laws. She had a great number of customers and developed many relationships through her work. She was a member of Tesca Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, and husband Friend Wolfe, she was preceded in death by brothers: Temmie David Matthew and Melvin Matthew; sister: Mary Ruth Brinkman, and an infant sister Elizabeth Ann Matthew.
Survivors include two sons: John Carl Overstreet, of Frederick, Oklahoma, and Allen Overstreet and wife Monica, of Burkburnett, Texas, a step-daughter: Micah Hibbard, of Pryor, Oklahoma; a sister: Patricia “Pat” Cassady, of Lawton, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Maranda Rae and husband Sergeant First Class Dustin Belle, of Baumholder, Germany, Cole Allen Overstreet and special friend Alyssa, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Dalton Colyer Overstreet, of Burkburnett, Texas, Carmen Cecilia Olivas, of Davidson, Nickolas Adam Olivas, of Burkburnett, Texas, and Armani James Haston, of Stillwater; and great grandchildren: Daxton Jase and Easton Hibbard; a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
