Memorial service for Evelyn Fleurette (Cade) Barnett, age 85, of Hollister, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel.

Mrs. Barnett passed away Monday, May 26, 2025, at Wilbarger General Hospital in Vernon, Texas.

She was born November 9, 1939, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to George and Kathryn Cade. She went to school in Bartlesville and Alexandria, Virginia, graduating from College-High High School in Bartlesville, in 1957. She attended Oklahoma State University, until January 1959, when she married Ronald O. Barnett, of Hollister, Oklahoma, whom she met at OSU. They lived in Shawnee, Oklahoma, until 1962, where two sons, Bennie Wayne Barnett and Ronald Ray Barnett were born. In 1962, they moved from Shawnee to the Hollister community. In 1968, they adopted a daughter, Lucille Kathryn.

Evelyn worked at the Frederick Memorial Hospital in the 70’s, as a ward clerk, and as an operating room scrub-technician. After they moved to Sallisaw in 1980, she worked at various jobs, until 1983, when she completed the requirements for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked in a Doctor’s office in Sallisaw for several years.

Evelyn returned to Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1989, and resumed work in surgery. In 1992, she completed her requirements for an Associate Degree as a Registered Nurse (RN). She continued to work in the surgery department, and eventually became the head of Surgery, (ORN Operating Nurse). She continued to work in surgery, until 2005, when she worked for a period of time for the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital in Waurika, and the Comanche County Memorial Hospital Wound Care Center in Lawton. In 2006, she returned to Tillman County Memorial Hospital, and resumed her work in Surgery, on a part-time basis until the hospital closed.

Evelyn loved horses, cats and dogs, not necessarily in that order, and over the years had many of them. Her father’s approval was important to her in all things, and she blew it when she married a farmer, who was a Baptist, and a Democrat!

She loved to travel, and felt that she had been deprived of that opportunity until the last few years when they made many trips, i.e., several into Canada, Michigan, Minnesota, and many of the Southern states, as well as sharing a short vacation trip annually to East/Southeast Oklahoma for several years with her brother and his wife. These were always memorable occasions for her, and she loved to frequently go over the photographs taken on the trips. She considered herself a “private” person, and seldom discussed her feelings with anyone! Approval of her career, her actions, and her priorities were important to her, and failure to receive that approval bothered her a great deal.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ronald Ray; and a daughter, Lucille (Lucy) Katherine.

She is survived by her husband of the home; a son, Bennie Wayne, of Hollister; a granddaughter, Stephanie Barnett and her partner, Kellan Fortney, of Cache; a great granddaughter, Kennedi Renay Phillips, of Cache; a grandson, Brett Wayne Barnett, of Lawton; and a great grandson, Broxton Wayne Barnett, of Elgin; a brother, Douglas Cade and his wife, Jane, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a niece, Evelyn Cade Campo; and her two children, Henry and Alice, of New Orleans, Louisiana.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, of Hollister, Oklahoma.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to: Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Avenue, Amarillo, TX 79101 or the Hollister Cemetery Fund.
