Charles Edward Paxton

            Funeral service with U.S. Army military honors for SFC (Ret.) Charles Edward “Chuck” Paxton, age 74, of Frederick will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at the Fort Sill National Cemetery with a Fort Sill Army Chaplain officiating.

            Chuck passed away Friday, August 21, 2020, at the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center.

            Arrangements are under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home, of Frederick.

            He was born on May 6, 1946, in Greeneville, Tennessee, to Charles and Genita (Holt) Paxton. He attended school in Tennessee. He entered the United States Army on May 21, 1965, at Greenesville, Tennessee. He served honorably for over 20 years with two tours in Vietnam and an extended stay in Germany as well. He was discharged Sergeant First Class on October 31, 1985, in Fort Polk, Louisiana. Among the awards he received for his duty to country include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (Red Oak Leaf Cluster), Overseas Service Bars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), and Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal. He was united in marriage on January 1, 1981, to Jo Ann Taylor, in Lawton, Oklahoma. After his military retirement, he worked as a contract supervisor at Fort Sill for tank mechanics. He worked as security guard at the Southwest Juvenile Center, in Manitou. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, reading and watching “old westerns” on television.

            He is survived by his wife: Jo Ann, of the home in Frederick; sons: Steve Paxton and wife Steffie, of Germany, Todd Haynes and wife Amy, Frederick, and Lee Wapp and wife Kristen, of Frederick; daughter: Tammy Taylor, of Durant; two brothers: Donald and Jerry Paxton, both of Bulls Gap, Tennessee; eight grandchildren: Steve Jr., Sam, Bryce, Courtney and husband Ryan, Mattie, Danielle, Peyton and Taylor; and one great grandchild on the way.
