Graveside service for Rev. Vernon C. Floyd, age 84, of Frederick, Oklahoma, was at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home. A memorial service was at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Morey, Associate Pastor, Bible Baptist Church and Dr. David Bryant, President of Arlington Baptist College, officiating. A reception was held at the Bible Baptist Church, following the memorial service. Bro. Floyd went to be with his risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. He passed away at his home in Frederick, surrounded by his loving family. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home. Bro. Floyd was born on October 1, 1923, in Calera, Oklahoma, to Orval Roy and Ivy Lee (Earnest) Floyd. He attended Achille Schools, where he graduated high school. He was united in marriage to Omega Nadine Albert on August 8, 1942, in Achille, Oklahoma. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1943, where he served in Alexandria, Louisiana. After he was honorably discharged in 1946, they moved to Dumas, Texas, where he worked at Shamrock Oil Company and later worked at American Zinc Company of Illinois, in Dumas. They both taught Sunday school for five years while in Dumas. Bro. Floyd felt the call of the Lord into full time ministry, so the Floyd family moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, where he could attend Bible Baptist Seminary. While attending seminary, he started a church in Durant, Oklahoma and preached there for 1 ½ years on the weekends. When the church was established and had a preacher, he accepted a temporary preaching job in Jacksboro, Texas, where they stayed for about five months. In 1954, he graduated with a Masters in Theology. He preached in view of a call in Frederick, Oklahoma, where he accepted the pastorate in May of 1954. The church at that time was five months old and had six members. He began visiting for the church that was meeting in a tiny house on the present property of 16th and Floral. In 1956, the existing church auditorium was built, and Sunday school continued to be held in the little house on the corner of the property. The Sunday school building was built on in 1959, with the top floor being added in 1973. They were charter members of the Minnetonka Christian Church Camp and have supported it since its inception. They have directed the Bible Baptist Church Annual Christmas Drive Through Program for the past 25 years. He has touched many people through his ministry, performing hundreds of weddings and funerals. He received Frederick Lions Club 2007 Most Useful Citizen Award. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: James Floyd, in 1995; a daughter in law: Debby Gant, in 2004; and a grandson: Tyler Floyd, in 1992. He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Omega; two sons: Roy Floyd and wife Lynda, of Bonham, Texas and Randy Floyd and wife Denise, of Enid, Oklahoma; two daughters: Debbie Morey and husband Brent, and Dianne Gant and husband, Allan, all of Frederick, Oklahoma; two brothers: Chock Floyd and wife Lawana, of Dumas, Texas and Orval Floyd and wife Jean, of Norman, Oklahoma; three sisters: Betty Lou Wigington, of Amarillo, Texas; Mary Sue Lanier, of Borger, Texas and Iva Lou Reeves and husband, Jessie, of Maysville, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren: Sean Floyd and wife Heather, Chad Floyd and wife Sondra, Rory Lacy and husband Brad, Charlie Gant, Josh Morey, Jake Gant, Jenna Morey, Zac, Seth and Cole Floyd; seven great grandchildren: Will, Worth and Wyatt Lacy, Kylie Walker, Matthew Floyd, Marley and Chandler Floyd and numerous nieces and nephews.
