Funeral service for John Nelson, age 85, of Godley, Texas, formerly of Hollister, Oklahoma, was at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Burkhardt Chapel in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Nelson passed away Friday, October, 3, 2008, in Cleburne, Texas. Burial was at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home, Frederick, Oklahoma. John Lee Nelson was born on October 26, 1922, in Hollister, Oklahoma, to Elmer and Alma Ruth (Brase) Nelson. He grew up and attended school in Hollister, where he graduated high school. He served honorably in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Maebelle Herring, on December 21, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. He worked at General Motors in Arlington, Texas, for more than 25 years, until his retirement. He loved training and racing thoroughbred and quarter horses. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maebelle Nelson, in 1996; a brother: Don Ray Nelson and three sisters: Gladys Tipton, Dorothy Wilson and Alice Ruth Bolling. He is survived by two sons: Ronald Lee Nelson, of North Carolina and Donald Dean Nelson, of Texas; two daughters: Lana Kay Nelson and Sherri Sue Parker, both of Texas; eight grandchildren: Shelley, Wendy, Omar, Chad, Linda, Monty, Travis & Justin; seven great grandchildren: Dominque, Madyson, Brandon, Cameron, Hanna, Thomas and Aaron John.
