Funeral for James Leon Hunt, Sr., age 81, of Blooming Grove, Texas, (formerly of Lawton, Oklahoma), was at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2008, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana, Texas, with the Reverend Darrin Heil officiating. Graveside service with military honors was held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, Frederick, Oklahoma. Burial is under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home, of Frederick. James departed from this life on Friday December 5th, 2008 at his home in Blooming Grove Texas Surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 28th, 1927 in Vera, Texas to Earl and Ethel Hunt. He grew up in Manitou, Oklahoma and was raised on a farm there. He graduated from Lang High School and attended Vocational school in Manitou. He served his country in World War II as a Sergeant and a tank leader in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Georgia Washington on December 25, 1949, in Vernon, Texas. James spent the majority of his life self employed, building underground houses and cellars, and doing back hoe work. James built some of the first underground houses in Southwest Oklahoma. James was a member of Central Baptist Church in Blooming Grove, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His hobbies were gardening, driving his backhoe, and watching sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Louise Phillips, and a granddaughter Stephanie Hunt. Survivors include his wife: Georgia, of the home; two sons: James Leon Hunt, Jr. and wife Loretta of Corsicana, Texas, and Donnie Lynn Hunt and wife Glenda of Blooming Grove, Texas; a daughter Brenda Griffith and husband Gerald of Corsicana, Texas; two brothers: Kenneth Hunt and Earl Van Hunt; and a sister: Olya Jean Schroeder; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; a niece: Mary Katheryn Zollar; several additional nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
