Funeral service for Gloria Jean McKinney, age 67, former Frederick resident, of El Reno, Oklahoma, was 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the Burkhardt Chapel of the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Eric Snyder, pastor, First United Methodist Church, Frederick, officiating. Ms. McKinney died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at an El Reno, Oklahoma, hospital. Burial was in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, Frederick, Oklahoma, under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home, Frederick. She was born February 23, 1941, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Hesper and Lillian (Hostetler) McKinney. She grew up in Hollister, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Hollister High School in 1959. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She married Hugh Taggard in September of 1961. She worked as an accountant for 25 years and then as a caregiver (CNA) for 15 years. She was a mother advisor for Order of Rainbow for Girls of the Narema Assembly. She was a member of the Hollister Methodist Church and later joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in Altus. She moved to El Reno to be near family, where she was a member of the El Reno Seventh Day Adventist. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing games and arts & crafts; especially cards, dominoes and painting t-shirts. While at the St. Katherine Assisted Living Center, she enjoyed reading to the residents and singing even if she wasn't on key. She enjoyed long drives in her car especially to see seasonal change and foliage. She was a loving mother and very intuitive where he children were concerned. She was preceded in death by a brother: Leland Hesper McKinney; and a granddaughter: Krystal Largent. Survivors include three daughters: Sherri Taggard, Dianne Taggard and Kim Largent, all of Oklahoma City; a son: Emmett Taggard, of Oklahoma City; two brothers: Mike McKinney, of Avondale Heights, Australia, and R. D. McKinney, of Naperville, Illinois; six grandchildren: Jake Gibson, of North Carolina; Kyle Brassfield, Keven Brassfield, Hanna Atkins, Baylee Brassfield and Tamara Largent, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and one great granddaughter: Sadie Madelyne Gibson, of North Carolina.
