Merle Hancock

Funeral service for Merle Hancock, age 103, of Grand Prairie, Texas, formerly of Frederick, Oklahoma, was at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Burkhardt Chapel in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Wade Weaver, officiating. Mrs. Hancock passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at her home. Burial was in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home. Merle was born on June 24, 1905, in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, to J. L. and Eudora (Bodenhammer) Griffin. She moved to Tillman County in 1913. She graduated from Frederick High School and then attended Central State College in Edmond. She married O.B. Hancock in Frederick, Oklahoma, on May 29, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1993. She taught at Isadora School and Consolidated #3 School. They lived in Durant, Oklahoma and Ft. Worth, Texas. She also had worked as an assistant to a silk screen printer. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, O.B. in 1993; a son: John A. Hancock, on April 18, 1988; four brothers: Neil, Kenneth, Woodrow and Rudolph Griffin; and three sisters: Violet Vite, Louise Brittain and Katherine Williams. She is survived by a daughter in law: Mary Lou Hancock, of Grand Prairie, Texas; two granddaughters: Rebecca Jane Hancock and Mary Beth Reeves; two great grandchildren: Tyler Griffin Reeves and Ryen Reeves.
