Elton Thomas George Avery

Funeral service for Elton Avery, age 88, of Frederick, Oklahoma, was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Burkhardt Chapel in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Michael Trusty and Mark Henry, officiating. Mr. Avery passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, in Frederick, Oklahoma. Burial was in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home. He was born on October 14, 1920, in Garvin, Oklahoma, to Joseph and Etter (Allen) Avery. He married JoAnna Wood on September 10, 1941, in Frederick, Oklahoma. He worked as a respected carpenter, where he built many homes in the Altus and Lawton areas. He was a very private man that loved his family. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Rebecca Ann Avery, at birth; one brother and five sisters. He is survived by his wife, JoAnna, of 67 years, of the home; a son: Elton Terry Avery, of Cleburne, Texas; a daughter: Nina Delynn Wilkerson, of Frederick, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and one special great great granddaughter: Tesa Fleming; many friends, nieces and nephews and a special lifetime friend: L.D.
