C. E. Rhodes was born on January 21, 1931, to Clarence and Eva Rhodes in Hobart, Oklahoma. He lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Florida in 1962. He was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Snyder High School, Snyder, Texas in 1950, and the University of Texas, Austin, with a BA in mathematics in 1959, and an MA in mathematics in 1962. He earned an MS in Physics from Florida Atlantic University in 1969. He taught mathematics at Odessa Junior College, Laredo Junior College and Cisco Junior College in Texas before moving to Broward Community College, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1962. He taught mathematics and physics at Broward Community College from 1962- 1997(35 years). Teaching excited and energized him throughout his career-working with young people kept him forever young. A self-taught computer programmer, C.E. enjoyed working with computers on into his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Howard and Weldon. He is survived by his wife: Phyllis, of the home; three sons: Michael and Shirley, of Durant, Oklahoma; Guy and Helen of Durant, Oklahoma; and Howard and Aimee of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren: Jeremie, Gabriel, Joseph, Nicole, Emmaline, and Lorelei, two great grandchildren: Ruby Grace and Louis Ray; and one sister: Ann Walton, of Snyder, Texas
