Gwendolyn Smith

Gwendolyn "Gwen" Smith went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She died in Oklahoma City, from a lengthy bout with Alzheimer's, at the age of 86 years, eight months and 29 days. She was born on January 6, 1925, in Devol, Oklahoma to Joseph and Winnie (Mahaney) Henry. She graduated from Frederick High School and attended Oklahoma Women's College. She was united in marriage to Allan W. "Smitty" Smith in 1954, at Frederick. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1986. Gwen was a large part of the community. She served in many civic and voluntary functions, including the Hospital Board, President and board member of the Arts Council, Chamber Board member, Leadership Frederick, Certified Cities, Philharmonic, member of the Frederick Country Club, PEO, Clinton Ongoers and a charter member of ESA. She attended First Baptist Church where among many duties, served on the Personnel Committee, and lent her amazing singing voice to the choir. She was a very active member in the genealogy community, where she studied and researched her family tree. She is a registered member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Due to her health, she spent the majority of the last two years in Oklahoma City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Winnie Frye; her husband Allan "Smitty" Smith; her grandmother Amanda "Granny" Camilla Mahaney; grandfather Albert Loyd Mahaney; and her brothers: Alvis "Mac" McGee and his wife Winnie, and Carl Frye and his wife Myrna. She is survived by her two brothers: Francis Frye and wife Edna Rae of Brawley, California, and Joseph Frye and wife Margaret of Murrieta, California; four nieces, three nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
