Gene Autry Johnson

Gene Autry Johnson went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the age of 66 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He was born March 7, 1945, to Ras and Josephine (Henry) Johnson, in Clinton, Oklahoma. He grew up in Frederick, and attended Kennedy Elementary School and Boyd High School. He played basketball and was in 4-H. He married Jacquelin Tarkington in 1963. He worked at the Compress in Frederick for three years. They moved to Houston, TX and he worked for R. R. Marble Construction for 26 years. His wife preceded him in death in 1998. Prior to his death he was a security guard. He loved to fish and hunt. He knew no strangers. If you were a stranger; after you talked to him, you were a friend for life. He had a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his father; his wife: Jacquelin; one son: Albert Johnson; seven brothers: Charles Ray Johnson, Buster Johnson, R. L. Johnson, Emmett Johnson, Roy Johnson, J. C. Johnson, and Gary Johnson; and three sisters: Sunshine Cade, Betty Johnson, and Excel. He is survived by his mother: Josephine Johnson, of Newport News, VA; one son: Leslie Johnson and wife of Houston, TX; two daughters: Shelia Johnson and Kimberly Johnson, both of Houston; three brothers: R. J. Johnson, of Lawton, OK, James Johnson, of Minnesota, and John Johnson, of Newport News, VA; four sisters: Christine Anderson and husband Cornelius, of Lawton, OK, Carol S. Edwards, of Lawton, Loretta Martin and husband Anthony, and Wanda Lewis and husband Raymond, both of Newport News, VA; 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
