Mary Helen Morton

Mary Helen "Sugar" Morton went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2013. She passed away at her home in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years, three months and 25 days. She was born September 4, 1923, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Frank Earl and Edna Alma (Courtney) Moss. She lived in Frederick all her life. She grew up and attended Frederick Schools and graduated with the Class of 1941. In high school, she was active in Glee Club and the band. She loved singing and playing the piano. She attended Oklahoma City University. On December 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to J. D. Morton. She assisted her husband in his crop insurance business as well as working as secretary at the Tillman County Treasurer's Office. She then worked at the Homer Tilley Insurance Agency that later became Howard Watkins Insurance Agency, until her retirement. She was a splendid homemaker. She loved music and it was very important to her. She enjoyed playing Bridge. She was a member of PEO and the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband J. D. Morton in 1999. Survivors include her daughter: Nancy Hasley and husband Randy, of Frederick, Oklahoma; a son: John Morton and wife Marky, Frederick, Oklahoma; two grandchildren: Travis Hasley, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Shelby Morton, of Manassas, Virginia; and two great grandchildren: J T and Hannah Herndon, of Virginia.
