MY STORY Obituary of Lena Ruth Argo (Written by Lena Ruth Argo) The story of my life is a most interesting story. It is a combination of love, sorrow, and many joys which I have experienced by the grace of God who made and saved me through His son Jesus Christ. He has been my shining light, especially during the darkest times of my life. As the 23rd Psalm says, "Thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." I give this brief account of my life in order to share with each of you on the occasion of my heavenly homecoming day. PLACES I was born at home, southwest of Frederick, Oklahoma, on a Wednesday night at 12 a.m., August 8, 1928. I lived on that farm until I married (the first time) at the age of nineteen. I bought the little three room Laney house and had it moved into town. I lived there until I married the second time and moved to the north part of town. I then moved to Altus, OK and then to Grandfield, OK for a short while and then moved to Moore, OK, where I lived ever since. FAMILY My father was Charlie Elwood Sell. My mother was Milla Violet (Melson) Sell. My oldest sister (first born) was Blanche Mae (Sell) Ripley. The second born was my oldest brother Ray Elwood Sell. The third was Charley Benner Sell. The fourth was Virgil Miller Sell. Next was a baby boy that did not live, named Harold. Next was my sister Lucille (Sell) Goodwin. And finally, last but not least, a tiny baby girl was born, little ole me, Lena Ruth (Sell) Scheller Argo. After I married God blessed me with two lovely daughters. Vicki Rhnea was the firstborn and then Brenda Darlene. Two daughters were born to Brenda and I became a grandmother to Casey and Carley. And I also have a great grandson whose name is Vincent Magos. I also wish to mention two nieces: Nieta Faye Loftis and Phyllis Harrison PERSONAL EXPERIENCES I used to play cowboys and Indians with my two nephews Charles Ripley, Jr. and Jerry Don Sell. I rode horses with Jr. I went to the Ritz Theater on Saturdays and watched shoot em ups. On Sundays I went to church in the afternoon I would go to the Ramona Theater and watch romance movies. After my daddy died I had to do the milking and would get up early, go to the barn and milk two cows, take the milk to the house, separate it and clean the separator. Then I would take a bath, get ready for school, and walk a half mile to catch the school bus. When I returned home from school I had to milk those two cows again. I slopped hogs, fed chickens, gathered eggs, chopped cotton, pulled boles, scooped wheat and whatever else needed to be done on the farm. It was a good life. SCHOOL MEMORIES I went to Wilson Consolidated Number Two from beginning to end (first through twelfth grades). My first and second grade teacher was Sarah Duke. Every morning all of the kids were to say Good morning Miss Duke'. I can still hear that sound. My third and fourth grade teacher was Opal Perryman. My fifth and sixth grade teacher was Clyde Amyx. My seventh and eighth grade teacher was Mr. Leon C. Shook. Then in high school I had several different teachers: Mr. Bill Blankenship was the superintendent. Other memorable people in school were Mr. and Mrs. Jewell, Mr. Jack Lewis, Ms. Delgado and Mr. Clyde Eoff. CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY I joined the First Methodist Church in Frederick when I was seventeen. I was sprinkled, however, I wanted to be baptized but the Methodists did not baptize by emersion. When I met and married Doyle Argo (July 29, 1961), who was a Baptist, Chevy Newman officiated the wedding ceremony. At the same time Doyle more or less talked me into becoming a Baptist. Son on a Sunday night (Easter Sunday) I was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Frederick by the Rev. Mart Hardin who was the pastor. WORK EXPERIENCES I worked at Tomlinson's 5 & Dime for a short while. Then I started taking a beauty course and met and married Doyle Argo. Later I went into the child care business and baby sat for many, many years. PERSONAL INTERESTS During my life I have enjoyed gardening, socials, meeting and greeting people and most of all going to church. And I've enjoyed watching television. And over the years I've met many friends and treasured those friendships. MEMORIES I once belonged to four book clubs at one time. I read a lot! I read modern romances, Guideposts, and books about angles on earth. And of course I read my Bible. I used to enjoy copying recipes from the television which interest me and also Marie Bumpas recipes from the Frederick Press. I enjoyed reading Billy Graham and listening to Ethel Waters sing, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow." I also enjoyed listening to Kate Smith sing "God Bless American." When I was a young girl I liked to come home from school and listen to the radio. I would listen to Jack Armstrong, Little Orphan Annie' and other programs. In the summertime I would listen to Stella Dallas, Ma Perkins, The Guiding Light' and a few others. This has all been a trip down memory lane! Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home (580) 335-2112
