Margaret Aikin

December 15, 1929 — March 11, 2016

Margaret Sue Aikin went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 11, 2016. She passed away at her home at Willowood, in Mustang, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years, two months and 26 days. She was born on Sunday, December 15, 1929 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Thomas Toliver Ward and Effie Rutherford Ward during a snow storm.  Her name was registered on the First Christian Church cradle roll on the day she was born. Margaret was a member of the First Christian Church in Frederick, Oklahoma for over 40 years, at which during various times she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher for children, children's choir director, and church choir director.  She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in Frederick.  She was a member of the Philharmonic Club in Frederick for many years. Margaret later moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and became a member of the First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught a Bible study.  She worked as a bookkeeper while living in Wichita Falls. In Wichita Falls, Margaret met Erbie Aikin through his niece who was a friend of hers at the church.  She and Erbie were married in 1986 in Wichita Falls and established their home in Clarksville, Texas where Erbie lived.  Margaret joined Erbie's church, the McKenzie Methodist Church, in Clarksville, where they both sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and were members of the Administrative Council of the Church. Margaret and Erbie did a lot of community volunteer work.  She also joined a book club in Clarksville called the New Century Club, which was founded in 1900.  She did a good deal of traveling with her husband in places such as New England, Washington state, Wyoming, Arkansas, California, and Europe. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Erbie Aikin; her parents, Thomas and Effie Ward; and a sister, Betty Ziegler. She is survived by her sons, Mark Wilson and wife, Martha, of Fletcher, Oklahoma; Tim Wilson of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Royace Aikin and wife, Jean, of Richland, Washington.  She is survived by grandchildren, Heather Wilson of Lawton, Oklahoma; Dana Wilson of Lawton, Oklahoma; Kendi Starr of Yukon, Oklahoma; Stephanie Schell and husband, Greg, of Norman, Oklahoma; Adam Sanders and wife, Rena, of Norman, Oklahoma; Scott Aikin and wife, Susan, of Nashville, Tennessee; Jacob Aikin and wife, Janine, of Santa Clara, California.  She is survived by great grandchildren, Hunter, Kassie, Connor, Ethan, Sydney, Madeleine, Iris, Landon, and Hudson; and a great great grandchild: Ashton.Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home (580) 335-2112
