Marye "Tommye" Smith

October 30, 1933 — January 23, 2018

           Graveside service for Marye “Tommye” (Burke) Smith, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Frederick, Oklahoma, was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Chris Dodson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Frederick, officiating.             Mrs. Smith passed away at her home Tuesday, January 23, 2018, following a short illness. Burial was under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home             She was born October 30, 1933, in Tillman County, to Bruce and Ruth Hammonds Burke. She attended Victory School before moving to Frederick in 1942, where she graduated from Frederick High School. She attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, honorary education fraternity. Tommye married Dr. Jack Carothers Smith in 1954. He preceded her in death in 2003. She taught elementary school math in Dallas, St. Louis and Moore. Tommye loved her many dogs through the years, most recently Izzybell, a Westie; and Princess, a Scottie. She loved the game of duplicate Bridge and played five days a week at Fun & Games Bridge Studio until shortly before her death. She attained the rank of Ruby Life Master. In 2011, she was named to the Aileen Osofsky National Goodwill Committee, which is considered to be the most prestigious organization within American Contract Bridge League. Her selection was based on exemplary ethics and conduct at the table, courtesy shown toward her partners and opponents and service to her local unit. Tommye was a beautiful person inside and outside, and delighted friends with her witty sense of humor.             Survivors include daughter: Karee Smith Robertson, Oklahoma City; sisters: Bette Bruce MacKellar (Jim), Oklahoma City and Jan Burke Rhodes (Bob), Iowa Park, TX; and a very special friend: Ron Combest; sisters-in-law: Kathleen Smith Trautman (Dr. Richard) and Mary Frances Smith Copeland, and beloved nieces and nephews             She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary Pearl and Jay Robey Smith; and a brother-in-law: Robert Y.
