Verda Rea Gonzalez

            Funeral mass for Verda Rea (Owens) Gonzalez, age 62, of Lawton, Oklahoma, formerly of Frederick, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with Reverend Fr. Cory D. Stanley, pastor, officiating.  A rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

            Mrs. Gonzalez passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at a Lawton hospital.

            Interment will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.

She was born December 27, 1955, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to James Carl and Margene (Nolan) Owens. She grew up and attended Frederick schools. She was united in marriage to Salvador G. Gonzalez on February 24, 1973, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She worked at Hager’s making clothes. She was a homemaker caring for her children, attending soccer games. She later completed her GED at Cameron University and attended classes at ITT Technical Institute. She worked at Southwestern Medical Center as an administrative assistant until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking for her family, always bringing smiles with her food. She took pride in spending time with all of her grandkids, including playing make-up and other games simply enjoying their company. She gave lasting memories of baking cookies and cakes with them. She was Catholic.

            She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister: Shirley Ann Owens.

            Survivors include her husband: Salvador Gonzalez, of the home in Lawton, Oklahoma; two daughters: Yolanda Edwards and her husband David Virgil, of The Dalles, Oregon, and Monica Lynn Gonzalez, of Lawton; a son: Salvatore “Shaun” Gonzalez, of Lawton; three brothers: James E. Owens and wife Ann, of Frederick, Bill Owens and wife Dolly, of Davidson, and Danny Owens and wife Melissa, of Mounds, Oklahoma; five sisters: Dorothy Brown and husband Everett, of Great Bend, Kansas, Mary Kulp, of Electra, Texas, Susan Brown and husband Eldon, of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, Anna Kay “Katie” Murphy, of Frederick, and Cynthia “Cindy” White and husband Jimmy, also of Frederick; ten grandchildren: Tiffany and husband Jose Eduardo, Tyler, Tanner, Julian, Selena, Sabrina, Surena, Ricky, Mario and Monica; and two great grandchildren: Caralee and Calvin.
